This week has been another jam-packed week in Blackbirds.

Thank you to all who brought in their ‘treasures’ in boxes. We used these to write ‘Our Stories’ having read the story of emigration told through a collection of artefacts in the story ‘The Matchbox Diaries’. We will be learning more about emigration during next week.

In maths, we have been leaning how to add 2 and 3 digit numbers using column addition. We will be looking at subtraction over the next couple of weeks.

The highlight of this week though has to be Thursday when we celebrated World Book Day. The children looked amazing in their costumes of which there are pictures on twitter. There was also a fantastic collection of decorated potatoes. Thank you to all who helped their children with these.

As well as World Book Day activities in the afternoon, the children enjoyed our visit to the Bridgewater Hall in the morning. The concert was entitled Music, Mind and Mood and we listened to several pieces of music played by ‘The Halle Orchestra’ which created different moods and feelings. We also participated by singing the inspirational song ‘Believe’. To complete the senses experience each child had a sniff and smell card with scents that represented the feelings evoked by the music.
