Another fun packed week in Robin’s this week. We all came into school on Monday in our own clothes to support SOCHDOC, thank you for bringing in your £1’s to help children in Malawi who are not as lucky as we are.

We brought in our spare coppers for our PTA’s Copper Challenge, the PTA have taken our bottle and are now counting how much we have collected. A big thank you for supporting the fund raising initiatives of our PTA.

We started our new text in English ‘The Odd Egg.’ We enjoyed using our prediction skills to predict the creature that could have laid different weird and wonderful eggs. We posted some of our discussion pictures on twitter. We also learnt about the suffix ‘est’ at the end of a word and had a very active English lesson reading and sorting ‘est’ words.

In maths we completed our learning on money. We were all using the coins that we have been recognising to make the same amount in different ways. We have applied our addition and subtraction skills to add prices together, choose the coins that we would use to pay for our items. We have been working out how much change we would receive if we didn’t have the right money to pay for our items. The Year 1’s have been counting backwards in their head and drawing pictures to help them to subtract and the Year 2’s have been revisiting the jump strategy to find how much change they would get.

In history we have been learning about Neil Armstrong and how he became the first person to walk on the moon and the words he spoke when he took his first steps. Thank you to Emilia who brought in a book all about space from home to share with her friends in class. Maisie also wrote about The Wright Brothers at home, continuing her learning from our history lesson the week before. Well done girls you are enjoying your learning and continuing this at home.

On Friday Mrs Higgens came to work with Robins, while Miss Silver and I were at a meeting (sharing some very special work from our Year 2 children with other Y2 teachers from Wigan primary schools) she was made very welcome by all of the Robins. The children collaged a special meal they have shared with their family, using a variety of self-chosen materials. This was a very creative end to our first week of our new Come and See topic ‘Special Meals.’ Thank you Mrs Higgens for coming to work with us, we look forward to saying hello to you when we see you around school.

Our Wednesday Worder this week was Maja – well done Maja you are a very good follower of Jesus in everything that you do.

Our Ozzie’s Way Champion of the Week was Isobella. Well done Isobella we are very proud with all the effort you put each and everyday, you are a good role model for others in our class.

A HUGE well done to Ellis and Hope who were awarded their pen licence on Friday. A great way to finish of the week. Mrs Hassan and I were very proud to celebrate your handwriting and had no doubt that you deserve your pen licence. I cannot wait to present you on Monday with your blue pen.

Have a great weekend everyone and I look forward to finding out all about how you have survived the stormy winds and rain on Monday.

Miss Lea, Mrs Fox and Mrs Davies
