WEDNESDAY WORD – COMMUNITY

Our Wednesday word champions for this week are Louie Biddiss and Joseph Waterworth for making our school community a happy place to be. Well done to the both of you.

I FOLLOW “THE OZZIES WAY” CHAMPIONS

Well done to Charlie Riley and Charlotte Gaynor this week, who have worked well in all the areas, sharing their ideas and helping others. Well done to both of you.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING THIS WEEK? – During Come and See we have listened to the story ‘Mary and Joseph take Jesus to the temple’. The children found out that Jesus is the light and shows us the way and created their own candle to represent this and share the message. During Literacy, we have continued to work with the story of the Rainbow fish. Within our heads down activity we sequenced the story using pictures and helped our teachers to write our own version of the story, thinking about the beginning, middle and end of the story. In phonics we have learned the sounds w and x, reading and writing words with these sounds in them. We are getting better at reading the key words we, me, be, she and he. In Maths, we have continued our work on 2D shapes, using the language of sides and vertices to describe the shapes. During the afternoon, we have looked more at the habitat of the ocean, looking at videos of the ocean bed, talking about the importance of the coral, seaweed and rocks. The children have used this information to create their own 3D ocean habitats in boxes and wax resist pictures. Some children have been sewing their own rainbow fish, we will be continuing these next week so that all children get to make one. They will be decorating them with sequins and felt. In gymnastics with Mrs Garner the children have learned how to do an egg roll and a log roll.

WEEKEND CHALLENGE – This week we are sending home some more shape homework. The children need to cut out the 2D shapes to create a picture. Please talk to the children about the names of the shapes and get them to describe the shapes they are using i.e. the triangle has 3 sides and 3 vertices.

TEMPEST PHOTOGRAPHS – On Monday, the photographer from Tempest will be coming into school to take a whole group photograph of the two reception classes. Please ensure that your child comes into school with the correct uniform on this day.

INSPIRE SESSION – On Wednesday 29th January we will be holding our Writing inspire session.

Morning session – 9am – 11am is for the Eaglet parents/carers.

Afternoon session – 1.30pm – 3.30pm is for the Owlet parents/carers.

The session will run the same as previous sessions and we hope that parents will be able to attend or send a representative to work with their child.

READING CHALLENGES – Please ensure that you continue to encourage and help your child to complete their 10 reading challenges. The challenges can be completed in any order. You may wish to send in photographs of your child completing these so that we can add them to their learning journey. Thank you for your support with this.

SPELLINGS – Today we have sent home spellings with the children. Please practise these spellings with the children. Each Friday we will see how well the children have done at learning them.

Enjoy the weekend. We look forward to hearing about your adventures.
