Eagles’ Blog 17.1.20

WHAT’S NEW?

Well done to Ryan for being our winner of Ozzie’s Champion! Ryan won this week for trying very hard in all subjects and offering very good answers to discussions and questions within class.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

In English, Eagles have started a new book called ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ by Brian Zelznick. We have been focusing on the use of passive and active voice, report writing and diary writing. The children are really enjoying their new book and there is a film adaptation available of the book called ‘Hugo’. We are looking forward to solving the mysteries that we have been presented with so far!

In Maths, the children are working hard on working out different percentages of amounts. Some children have been learning and using the Bubble Method to work out percentages such as 45%, 15%, 57% etc. The pupils have been shown a very good Youtube clip that they can access at home to support them with this method. Can your child explain the bubble method to work out 45% of 700? Eagles are showing real confidence in finding and recognising equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. Great effort!

Our Art lessons have had a focus on observational drawings from our new English text, using sketching pencils and exploring tone. We have many talented artists!

Eagles’ class assembly is next week, Friday 24th January at 9.10am in the school hall. All children have worked together to write and create their class assembly, proving they have fantastic independent learning skills.  We look forward to seeing you there!

GUEST PUPIL BLOGGERS – SAKURA AND IONA

We really enjoyed art lessons with Mrs Colothan and found The Invention of Hugo Cabret interesting. Everyone drew pictures from the book using a range of pencils by their shade/tone.                                        We also really enjoyed our time with Mrs Hillam for our assembly that will be coming up soon. Sakura and I each wrote a verse of a poem along with Lois for our assembly about missions. We can’t wait!

Thank you for all of your support.
