This week in Seagulls' class we have been continuing to read the book 'The Arrival' by Shaun Tan, which is about a man who has to leave his country due to the threat of war. When the children arrived into class on Tuesday morning, they were told to keep their coats on because we would be going on an journey - like the character in the book. We were given suitcases and boarded a ship in class before setting off on an imaginary journey just like the main character in the book. We did a 'Thought Tapping' exercise, which involved the children pretending they were travelling far from home and sharing their thoughts and feelings about having to leave. As usual, the children were great at putting themselves in the shoes of others; they came up with brilliant ideas and shared some interesting vocabulary.
